Deccan Development Society (DDS) notes with deep sorrow the demise of Shri K. S. Gopal, a founding member of the organisation, on May 16, 2026. The Board recognises his basic contributions to its establishment and formative vision.
He later took over the Centre for Environment Concerns, Hyderabad, and worked extensively on rural development and environmental sustainability, focusing on water and soil management in drought-prone areas. He is particularly known for developing the System of Water for Agriculture Rejuvenation (SWAR), an innovation that improves water-use efficiency by maintaining moisture at the plant root zone, helping farmers sustain crops under severe water stress.
Shri K. S. Gopal’s work has made a lasting contribution to sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods.
